Human vs Jobs

It never occurred to me that finding a well paid job is hard especially in today's market. I always thought there are alot of jobs in the market, its only up to you either you want to take it or not.

And.. here is the real reason why you quit your (insert) job.

When you dont feel appreciated (either by money, colleagues, jealousy, etc)or you feel that you can do better and achieve more thats when you will start applying and hunting for jobs wether thru newspapers, words of mouth or online.

Out of curiosity I offered to help my fren, Y to look for job the other day. Y had applied for 25 white collar and blue colour jobs and so far no one called her.. yet. And i thought the more you applied, the more chances you have just like the lucky draw scam in every supermakets Boy was i wrong!

It could be the 'year end / year start' symptoms. People refuse to resign as they are waiting for bonus which normally pays out in Dec or Jan or Feb or April or company pays half Jan and half Apr, etc etc etc.

People who are lazy to move out from their comfort zone.IE: Working there for the past 10 years. 15 years. 20 years. WTF!! People who have the mentality of "i have been patient with that damn old man for so and so, i can be patient with him for another so and so month or year.

When someone told me they have been with the company for the last 30 years, i seriously wanted to ask them what's so great about the company?

I know this lady who has worked in this international healthcare company for the past 35 years, she is now in her 50s and believe it or not this is her first job! After few meetings with her and we became close i have the courage to ask her why is she not leaving her current? Her answer to me is simple.

1. Have been working so long and have 4 kids hence her bosses (who are the owners btw) let her leave work early to pick her kids from school and she can comes late in the morning sometimes as she needs to send her kids to school. She asked me, FIRST where can u get this kind of 'special treatment'? SECOND, which companies will allow staffs to go back early to pick up their kids?

2. She gets a whole month off as a gratitude for her long service. Annual leave of 30 days. WTH! She gets to go off to whenever she likes as long as she finishes her work that is requested by her boss.

3. This one i have to agree with her. WHEREVER you work, all bosses are the same and they have the same(insert)attitude / behaviour / style. And since she has been working with this company for few decades she has known her bosses inside out and know what to and what's not.

Of course, her pregnancy were all taken care of, not to mention insurance for her whole family.

But are all these benefits sufficient enough for an employee to stay that long in the company?

What if you are your own boss one day, what kind of benefits will you give your staffs in order for them to be loyal?
